Why It's Important to Have Their Back
As we have discussed in previous
FUELS, a leader is a person who inspires other people to take a journey they
will not take by themselves.
The last couple of weeks we examined how you can inspire others through hope and trust.
Today’s key building block is
to PROTECT YOUR PEOPLE
.
What does this mean?
Leadership involves both earning and offering trust . One of the best ways to do both is to show your subordinates that you will protect them in the corporate environment … IF they are accepting your leadership and following your directions.
Consider this scenario: You’ve given a project to a subordinate and its outcome turns out to be, frankly, awful. Your superior storms in, demanding to hold someone accountable. If you, as the leader, stand up and accept responsibility, and by doing so protect your subordinate, then he/she will be loyal to you forever.
There are only a few things in the workplace more inspiring than knowing your boss has your back!
Stand up and cover your people with your shield as long as they are being obedient to your instructions and your processes of taking care of teammates, customers, and making profits for your company.
When you have their back, they will be inspired by you! When they are inspired by you they will MAKE A PLAY!
Three ways you can inspire others:
- Build trust
- Build hope
- Protect your people
BOTTOM LINE: We must get RESULTS!
How do we get results?
By making a play today to PROTECT YOUR PEOPLE!
I’ll see you next week when the story of inspiring others continues!!!!
