Are You Meeting the Psychological Needs of Your People?

Let's recap. A leader is a person who inspires other people to take a journey that they will not take by themselves.

In the past few segments, we’ve examined how you can inspire others through hope, trust, protecting your people and keeping it simple.

Today we take a look at another key building block: REWARD AND RECOGNIZE .

What does this mean?

In addition to physical needs like food and shelter, all people have psychological needs. In The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People , author Stephen Covey says “everyone needs to be understood, affirmed, validated, and appreciated.”

By rewarding and recognizing your people you will fulfill their psychological needs, which will inspire them to perform at a higher level.

Are you recognizing your people? Sometimes high achievers and over-achievers tend not to reward or recognize others because they have already moved on to the next phase of business or issue that demands attention.

Are you recognizing your people fast enough? Clinical psychologist and “father of performance management" Aubrey Daniels states that a P ositive I mmediate C onsequence is necessary for reward and recognition to have maximum impact.

We must all stop and smell the roses every single day and recognize the fantastic work the great people around us are doing.

Today, catch someone doing a great job and PIC them!

When you reward and recognize your people they will want to give you more of their time and creativity to help the team be successful!

5 things you can do to inspire others:

  1. Build trust
  2. Build hope
  3. Protect your people
  4. Keep it simple
  5. Reward and Recognize

BOTTOM LINE: We must get results!

How do you get results?

By making a play today with a rewarding PIC for your fantastic people!
